This study examines the significant environmental degradation and negative spatial changes in vegetation cover in the Al-Qarah Bolly region from 1972 to 2023. The analysis relies on satellite imagery from the Landsat program, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and remote sensing techniques. The study utilizes the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to assess vegetation cover changes over time.
The comparative analysis of Landsat satellite images from 1972 and 2023 reveals a significant reduction in vegetated areas, indicating the worsening effects of desertification and environmental changes. These changes are influenced by both natural and human factors, including urban expansion, climate change, and unsustainable resource use.
The study recommends conducting a comprehensive environmental survey of the region using spectral analysis and continuous monitoring through remote sensing. It also suggests creating dynamic digital maps to track vegetation cover changes over time. Additionally, the study advocates for sustainable environmental strategies to mitigate degradation, such as reforestation programs, rational resource management, and enhancing local community awareness.
