تعنى جغرافية الانتخابات بتحليل الأنماط المكانية لعمليات التصويت، وهي لها تاريخ طويل وتبوأت في يوم من الأيام مكانة مميزة في حقل الجغرافيا. كان جغرافيو الانتخابات في القرن العشرين منذ الستينيات وخلال الثمانينيات ممارسين مهمين في عملية تطبيق الطرق الكمية ورسم الخرائط لتحليل بيانات الانتخابات وتمثيلها على المستويين المحلي والوطني. وقد كانت هذه الأعمال تجريبية - إلى حد كبير - في مغزاها وتركيزها، ومع ذلك فقد تولد عنها كم هائل من الأدبيات التي أوضحت الطبيعة المكانية المتأصلة في الانتخابات، بما في ذلك عملية إعادة رسم الدوائر الانتخابية، والعوامل الاقتصادية والسكانية المؤثرة فيها، واستراتجيات الحملات الانتخابية للأحزاب والمرشحين.
