Authenticity and modernity are two philosophical currents in Arab architecture.

Abstract

Contemporary Arab architecture is characterized by its deep connection to the past, a connection it cannot escape. This is a point the West has become accustomed to proclaiming openly, driven by a desire to undermine Arab civilization and strip Arabs of all the achievements that have enriched humanity since the dawn of history.
No civilization has ever emerged in a demonic way; rather, it is a matter of accumulation. Every civilization adds a civilizational illumination to what came before, and that is how civilization reached the level of richness and development it has reached.
I do not belittle contemporary developments, but I maintain that without authenticity, we would not have reached modernity. Did humanity suddenly arrive at its current state from nothing? Civilization, too, arises from human needs, and through trial and error, the essential and valuable elements of a phenomenon are revealed, allowing humanity to innovate and develop these positive aspects. He invests it to his advantage, and tries to get rid of the negative elements or at least neutralize them, or reduce their impact as much as possible.
In my view, architecture must address two fundamental issues: form and function, or appearance and performance. Otherwise, why expend effort, spend money, and waste time constructing buildings whose appearance is expensive yet performs only inadequate functions? From this, humanity learns how to build, where to build, and what the functions of the structures they construct should be.
