The study of crime in the Jufrah region during the period 2016-2023, based on available data and reports, is crucial for understanding its trends, especially amidst the political and economic changes the country has experienced. Crime is one of the most serious problems humanity has faced throughout history, necessitating an explanation and analysis of its spatial and temporal variations.
If the population issue revolves around three main dimensions—population growth (increase or decrease), declining demographic characteristics, and poor population distribution—these dimensions significantly influence the standard of living and service provision. Furthermore, they contribute to the spread and evolution of crime rates and the identification of crime patterns as prominent negative consequences of the aforementioned population problems.
The Jufrah region is not immune to these demographic challenges; a noticeable increase in crime rates has been observed, prompting this study. The research problem focused on understanding the temporal development of crime and its relationship to the transformations in the Jufrah region. This study employed descriptive methods to track the phenomenon and quantitative methods for data analysis, yielding scientific results that clarify the scope of crimes and assist decision-makers in combating them. A key finding is the significantly high crime rate in the Jufrah region, ranging from 399.5 to 577 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants during 2015-2024, with an annual average of approximately 464 crimes.
This high rate is attributed to several factors, notably rising unemployment, declining income for a large segment of the population amidst increasing living demands and costs, and administrative and financial corruption, including favoritism, bribery, nepotism, and embezzlement.
