Abstract

The ellipticity of rivers is formed by the flow of two factors, the first of which is the horizontal planning of floodplains (Lateral Accretion) by the deposition of sediment on the convex banks of river bends, creating a triangular point bar at each bend, which is deposited on the base of coarse materials. The second is the inundation of the banks with river load during the flood period, where fine alluvial deposits contribute to the vertical construction of the floodplain by adding new layers of sediment with each flood.
