The Impact of Desert Tourism on Sustainable Spatial Development: An Analytical Case Study of Al-Jufra Municipality"

Abstract

The question of the study lies in knowing the actual role that desert tourism plays in achieving sustainable local development in the Al-Jafra region. This study aimed to highlight the role of desert tourism in the Al-Jufrah region as a pivotal basis for supporting and achieving local development through the impact of this tourism on each dimension of sustainable development and support it significantly, and to uncover the reasons and obstacles that prevent the development of desert tourism and the development of this new tourism pattern. This study included the methodological approaches and the development of the data collection method, where the study relied on the descriptive approach in describing the study issue and the quantitative analytical approach by designing a questionnaire and distributing it to the study sample to collect and analyse the data to reach the results of the study,, This study reached many results, the most important of which is that desert tourism in the Al-Jufrah region is characterised by its diversity as it includes multiple types of tourism activities, which makes it attractive to many tourists from different parts of Libya. We also found weak coordination between the authorities responsible for planning and implementing tourism development, especially with regard to human resource development, and local development is mainly based on the participation and cooperation of the local population through the exploitation and valorisation of the region's resources.
