Abstract

The years following World War II witnessed steady growth in geographical research in general, and applied geography research in particular, in many countries of the world, especially developed countries. It was natural that developing countries would also witness a remarkable shift in this direction.
The term “applied geography” has become the defining characteristic of our current era. Applied geography means: the application of the geographical method and scientific techniques that help in solving natural and human environmental problems within the framework of the regional organization of those environments.
In the United States, geographers have devoted considerable attention to addressing contemporary economic, political, military, and social problems, employing the latest technologies and methods such as remote sensing and aerial photography.
Quantitative methods in research, survey techniques and analysis. These research efforts have helped in providing solutions to existing problems in the areas of transportation, industrial localization, urban centers and marketing, tourism, education and health.
