Urban concentration of services and its impact on development in the Green Mountain region

Abstract

Development processes in urban centres bring about profound transformation, including population redistribution and changes in urban patterns and economic activities (the process of urbanization).           

These urban centres are affected by development processes, both positively and negatively, depending on the development model adopted by decision-makers and urban planning management in Libya.            

Within this framework, this study examines the urbanization process in the cities of the urban system in the Green Mountain region by applying and comparing the current situation with a number of indicators as a means of measuring dominance and its resulting negative repercussions, whether related to the city itself or the urban system to which it generally belongs. Conversely, the rapid population growth in the cities of the Green Mountain region has led to the growth of some cities in the region more than others, especially the city of  Al-Bayda, due to the relocation of government headquarters and service institutions, particularly educational and health institutions. This has caused the emergence of many urban problems within the city, and this, of course, has led to the emergence of many problems suffered by the rest of the cities in the region as a result of this dominance.
